Since Rick Stein was discovered by the BBC this place has gone all posh. Talking of which, she and Becks have a house across the camel in Rock. Although Ricks seafood restaurant does nice food he does not do real ale. So I’ve come up with a few outlets to try!

Very attractive bar area, sectioned into areas
including nice pool table area and "town bar". Pretty deep red
furnishing with a nice mirror that reflects the red glow of the light.

nice decor. A lot better than most hotel bars. Staying at the hotel costs a
small fortune, try the B&B next door its a nice place. John 7.5/10
A large hotel with spacious rooms divided into

interested in flirting with male customers than serving! Long bar area not
particularly nice and dimly lit. Small side bar quite pleasant, but not happy

It’s a bit industrialised around here with the China Clay industry nearby, now owned by Imerys, a French Company. Par has docking facilities for large ships as well. Because of this some of the pubs used to offer more than beer and food!

gave me a bottle of tomato ketchup when I ask for a tomato juice on a drinks
round! John 9/10 Sept 2002
A brilliant pub in the middle of the beach. Large interior with a great atmosphere – even Chelsea F.C. on the TV which was excellent.(Sue was happy). A lovely view through the windows of the pounding surf and foul weather. Foreign lagers Castle, Hoegarden and Bitburger. Very nice paintings on display. Open plan with Hawaiian style bar and tasteful X-mas decorations. The raised seating ensures good views form everywhere. Sue Dec 2000

A very old pub with low ceilings and beams.
Nice plant tubs on the patio outside and ivy wreath on the walls! Liked the red
upholstery and bar area inlaid with wood panels. Bar divided into separate
sections, which was nice. Flowers and plants on ledge and sills very pretty. Sue Aug 97
A real nice old pub with genuine low
beams, people were a lot smaller years ago. Good beer and a good atmosphere.

A very pretty country pub with a good
section of food. Friendly atmosphere makes it much frequented by locals. Very attractive
decor with stone walls and old photos and a very attractive bar area with low
ceiling. Altogether I liked atmosphere and the way the pub was set
out. Sue
Country pub with a nice exterior. Inside is nice
too, with stone walls and nice decor. Food is popular in this pub, but the
drinkers are not left out the beer is as good as the food. John 8/10 Sept

The ‘Inn on the Beach’. That’s what the locals call it. I first visited the place in 1973 and its not
changed much since then. A fine pub
offering a large selection of real ales.
A new landlord and landlady took over in December 2001 and they cater
for the eater as well. A good selection
of home made food has made the pub worthy of both Egon Ronay’s and Les Routiers
guides. Inside there is wood panelling
and slate on the walls. As you enter
there is the bar and to the left a large bay window overlooking St Austell
bay. Go up a few steps to a restaurant
area selling good value food. Stu

Crisps and nuts – I’ve never bothered to ask for anything else!
A pub which has been left unchanged over the years,
despite pressure to make it more touristy! Basic wooden furniture in the semi
circular downstairs bar. 'Cool' blues and folk music played. This year rolls
are now being
served by new management! but this is the only food available as the emphasis
is very much on beer. Also ladies toilets, ( up very narrow staircase ) near by
family room and upstair bar have been nicely
refurbished-which is good as they were too basic! Best way to reach the
pub is by cliff walk from Looe as it is the perfect pub to finish in!
Atmosphere still very good and new manager keeps beers well. Always a shame to
leave!
Sue 10/10 visit Sept 2001
Right at the end of the road by the quay. A
marvellous pub full of character and characters! Once you negotiate the steep and tiny steps,
which lead to the front door you can just chill out. Occasional live music; you wont find Madonna
here! Great real ale, forget food and
just drink. The previous landlords have
left but still frequent the pub. Is this

The tourist pub in Polruan, most
people who get of the boat from Fowey and go straight into this pub, which is
what this pub counts on. In my opinion it feels it doesn't have to make the
effort because of this. Nice harbour location. John 7/10 Sept 97

variety! Felt that a little more could be done in the way of decoration and
comfort. Service a little slow, but pleasant and friendly with nice view of the

The locals pub in Polruan. Most people
who get off the boat from Fowey go straight to the Lugger inn and miss this
good pub. Cosy pub with a friendly atmosphere. Nice beams, fireplace and

A very old pub by the harbour. Lovely
atmosphere with uneven stone walls, oars and fishing nets on the ceiling and
real beams over fireplace, with recessed tables. A little food orientated but
good prices. Warm lighting. Generally a very cosy feeling. Sue Sept 1997

A wonderful location in a nice fishing
village. Car pack is on a beach at low tide, so if you get to comfortable in
this pub, might find your car under water. A nice balcony which overlooks the
harbour. Pleasant atmosphere with nice decor, a good pub for a summers
evening. John 8/10

A very attractive large pub with
granite pillars and rope decorations. Dimly lit bar. Oars and pennants on the
ceiling, sectioned off into separate areas (though I would prefer the fruit
machine in the games area). Well situated on the harbourside with lovely
flowering plants in tubs and lobster pots outside. Unusual lamps set in
wall. Sue July 1996

Another Lovely pub beside the harbour. Parking is not possible near the pub, so walk
to it at the North side of the harbour!
Incredible sea and harbour views.
I once visited with a delegation of Russian Engineers who after
consuming vast quantities of anything alcoholic, wanted to go for a swim! Could have caused an international incident!
They also filmed a TV advert here in the mid 1970’s – you can see why. Two bars, with good food.

This is a lovely little fishing
village on the Roseland peninsular. The
pub has a big beer garden across the road for those fine summer evenings
(when?). In the winter a coal fire heats
the pub. The previous landlords cats used to get the best position in front of
it. Children and pets are all welcome
here. There are two bar areas. A new upper bar area and a lower one by the
fire. The new landlord and landlady –
Keith and Mandy Johns - have sorted this place out – great pub with excellent
food and super beer! There is
accommodation here as well as a self catering 2 bedroom cottage overlooking the
harbour. Stu 9.5/10 June 2001
Also try the Lugger – a nice
restaurant/Free House which is by the harbour although you will have to have
food as well.
Lovely village pub which we visted on
a winters evening. Warm fire made for a warm and cosy atmosphere. Nautical
artefacts in the pub adds to the place. Small pub, which does get crowded in
the summer.

NB. There
is the private ‘comrades club’ in the village as well. The club sells 2 real ales, from Skinners and
Sharps – cheap beer, undercutting the pub trade by at least 40p per pint served
in excellent condition. The club is for
members and their guests only, although they are relaxed about this. It was formed after the 1st World War
and is always busy. The Club is 200
yards to the East of the Pub in the main street. Parking is at the rear. Punters often drift between the two drinking
establishments during the evening.
Cosy village pub, with a dimly lit bar area. Nice
decor with stone walls, beams and fishing artefacts. Good relaxing atmosphere.
Friendly landlord who serve a good pint. John 8/10 Nov 98 /March 2004
A pretty pub with brasses on display and textured
stone walls and an open log fireplace. Rather subdued peach coloured lights.
Also fishing rods and tackle. Grange walls. Friendly local pub. Sue Sept 98
