A boisterous town at the mouth of the
river Fal. The deep natural harbour has
attracted seafarers for 2000 years. The
town is a little worse for wear and the main street is a bit of an obstacle
course – a case of dodge the car!
However there are some great pubs here.

A pub with two bars, I think we went into the
front bar. Done out in the style of the Ale House In Truro, but a lot more
comfortable and better. A good pub. The thing I most like about this pub, is
there section of malt whisky. There are so many (150 ) they put them into a
menu, because the punters and the staff have trouble with the scottish names,
(ie Lagavulin is pronounced 'lagga-voolin ) they do them by numbers. So
its a little like ordering a Chinese takeaway.

Fowey’s most famous pub. John Carter was a local smuggler in the 18th Century. When he was a boy he nicknamed himself the ‘King of Prussia’ and this is who the pub is named after – not the actual King! It’s a very interesting pub architecturally. Stone pillars support the upstairs bar which is accessed by an outside staircase. However, once inside it somehow appears less historic. Reasonable beer and food. Stu 7/10 1996
