Situated in the Western ‘suburb’ of Truro this village used to be separated by farmland from the City.  Mind you it’s not exactly Brixton!  To get to the pub take the A390 ‘off slip’ heading West out of Truro and it’s on the left.  This has always been a good pub although modernised in recent years.  There is a large bar and two large eating areas with a conservatory to the left and another small public bar/pool room to the right.  Parking is outside to the right or the front.   Stu 8/10  Dec 2000

A very crowded lounge bar, so we when into the public bar which had cheese and pickles on the bar which always attracts mouse beer writers. Bar was not badly done out.  John 7/10 Dec 2000

Interesting pub with Large crowded'family bar'.  Well decorated, but full of diners. Large separate public bar with large wedges of cheese and pickles on bar, which is always a nice gesture to customers on a Sunday! Pool table and sports on TV.  Sue Dec 2000

Smashing thatched cottage right by the Fal river – this is a hidden gem.  It has its own landing and boat for trips on the river.  A lovely beer garden, barbecue area and beach as well.  Although there is no real ale, there is Warsteiner Lager; which is acceptable and the pub does have a wonderful collect of single malt whiskys’.  The bar is tiny – about 3 foot long (that’s 0.9 metres just in case you did not know)!  Its not open from October to Easter, but on a hot summers day have a drink, take a boat trip to Falmouth and back and then have another drink!  Parking is in the road leading to it from the King Harry ferry road (East side of Fal river).  NB.  This was constructed by the British for the American forces before D’Day.   Stu 8/10  Aug 2001

One of the most westerly pubs you can visit.  Situated near Porthcurno and the Minack open-air theatre on the beautiful Lands End peninsular.  Nearby is the Logan Rock, a massive stone that is precariously balanced on the cliffs and which can be rocked by hand!  This is a great pub with a front and rear bar, a children’s room and a beer garden.  Stu 8/10  1998

Nice old granite exterior, but inside the pub tries to be modern with a pool table and a dining room. Doesn't use the tradition of the pub to its advantage. Nice place all the same, but could be better.  John 8/10

A very difficult pub to find! Very pretty bar area in lounge with "beach bar" feel to it. Also a nice dining room and games room, with a beer patio. However I felt it could possibly develop its potential a little more, particularly the patio.  Sue Aug 1996

This old pub is just off the A30.  At Kennards House junction turn North and follow the old A30 running parallel with the new A30. The pub is full of clocks - over 70.  On the hour they all ‘go off’!  Lots of wood and stone with two bars and a small restaurant area at the rear.  Apparently the pub is haunted by a ‘friendly’ ghost.  There used to be good food served here, but my last visit was a disappointment.   The Thai curry I had was from a country called ‘Home Pride’ and the Spring rolls were served with a sweet and sour sauce, which came from a tomato sauce bottle!  Note. Its now part of a pub chain – Explains a lot!  Otherwise reasonable beer.

Take the road from the A390 towards St.Mawes.  This 16th Century building is situated in the ‘ridiculously’ wide main street of this old ‘Rotten Borough’.  A large car park is at the rear – watch the narrow passage though!  When I first visited this Inn in 1977, I remember a single large bar to the right as you entered.  The only punter in the pub was the Vicar!  Although there is still a single bar at the back, there are now 4 rooms including a pool room.  The landlords, Tim and Julie have turned this into a fine drinkers and eaters pub, with good value food.  Try the homemade grub.  There are good facilities for families; which are welcomed and a nice beer garden and play area for the kids.  Two of Cornwall’s finest micros are on tap as well!           Stu 8.5/10  Sept 2001

This picturesque pub lies next to the Truro River in Tresillian.  The A390 Truro to St Austell road forms its other boundary and provides a lot of passing trade.  The pub is thatched, although inside it’s a little disappointing and pretty cramped.  Last time I was there and had a meal we were sitting ‘on top’ of the people next to us.  There is plenty of parking at the bottom of the lane beside the pub.                               Stu 6/10  Mar 2000

Pub near Newquay airport. Pub goes for a 'ole World' atmosphere/feel. Its for those who what to get away from the Newquay tourists pubs. With a fireplace, fake beams and a pub parrot which doesn't do a lot of talking.  John 7.5./10 Sept 97

A very attractive well-laid out pub, with a nice old-fashioned stone fireplace and a pretty parrot, which was very quiet! Unfortunately the barman wasn't and I’m not keen his anti-female remarks. Otherwise the mark might have been higher. A very nice pub though.  Sue

NB The nearby Mannings Bar is attached to the The Royal Hotel – unfortunately it does not do real ale.  The Hotel used to have a good bar within the Hotel serving Bass.  A friend of mine used to work there.  Apparently in the early 1970’s, Truro was short on Real Ale outlets and this place was an Oasis.

I have a love, hate relationship with this pub.  Love the large choice of beers on gravity and handpump, the sawdust on the floor and the free peanuts.  Hate the large crowds on the weekend evenings, the unnecessary live music when it’s so crowded and the slow bar service.  Was refused service once, for carrying a carton with an empty beer glass from the Cornish Beer Festival at the old City Hall.  Funny way of promoting Real Ale!  Try and visit in the afternoon.
