This is a cracking little pub, which could easily be overlooked whilst driving by.  Situated on a crossroads, its exterior does not do justice to it.  During one visit in Aug 2000 I had the hottest curry ever!  Made the Red curries in Thailand taste like baby food.   Real ales served in excellent condition.  The pub changed hands (Nov 2000) and the new landlord and landlady are friendly.  The landlord often sits with diners for a chat as well.  The Sunday lunches are first class at around £5.50 for a roast.

Cracking view out of the window.  Stu 7/10   In 1975 John and I visited a pub in the village.  Its gone now but it was like someone’s front room.  Perhaps it was!  Anyway we could never find any reference to it in old books.  Perhaps it was a figment of our imagination?

Nice views of the coastline from this pub. Which it takes full of advantage off and why not (as Barry Norman might say). It might sound a little cruel but if you took away the view, you are left with a very average pub.

Pub with a superb view of St Michael’s mount through large windows. Nicely decorated with brass plates and white walls with black beams. Enlarged photos of local landmarks. Pale blue upholstery.  Sue July 1996

Small but very friendly pub.  Worth a visit. Stu 8/10

Pub in the centre of town, which was very crowded when we visited. Noisy and loud (not too loud) which made for a lively atmosphere. Good service from friendly bar staff, beer wasn't to bad either.  John 8/10

A very impressive front to this pub with plants and timbering. However, the interior not quite as nice with a rather intrusive fruit machine struck in the middle of it! Red furnishings with velvety wallpaper a little worn. Nice carnations on each table! Barman has a strange sense of humour and denies there is a ladies toilet!

Nice little pub on the road to Malpas from Truro.  It is situated beside a beautiful creek.  There is plenty of outside seating for the summer.  This pub was refurbished in 1998 in a modern wine-bar’ey sort of way with a nautical theme, but its still rather nice.  Oak tables and chairs furnish the two rooms.  The bar now faces you as you walk in.  Its more food orientated, but it still has 3 real ales on tap. Parking is difficult in the Summer and you rarely get in the little car park.  Stu 8/10 Feb 2001

I not one for sitting outside pubs most of the time, but the views from outside this pub of the river estuary are excellent. Inside there is a bird/Heron theme, but the decor is just average. One for a summers evening, beware of wasps wanting to died happy in your beer!  John 9/10 Sept 97

A very pretty exterior, with lovely views of the estuary and boats on the river. Nice pictures of Herons with descriptions, but not so sure about the stuffed heron in the cabinet! Rather food orientated but nice atmosphere and setting very nice.    Sue Sept 1997

Located up the steep hill to the West of the beach.  Renamed and previously called The Flying Machine and before that The Riviera again?  This pub was frequented by air force personnel from the nearby air base at St. Mawgan, which happens to offer scheduled commercial flights to Gatwick.  Pictures on the wall used to be of aircraft!  Pub is a mixture of old and new.  Unfortunately since being taken over by new landlords last year it has deteriorated and become more basic.  Bar staff dispense 2 to 3 real ales (in mediocre condition during my last visit).  Great views from the car park!                 Stu. 5/10 Sept 2001

Better of the two pubs in the resort.  Located right by the beach, an unusual pub that is worth a visit.  Reminds me of a beach café, and that was what it was originally, called the beach haven stores in the 1930’s.  It became a WRAF quarters during the war and then in 1946 it became a restaurant and snack bar.  In 1964 it finally became a pub.  The then owners daughter and husband now run it.  For more history see the food menus!  Seats at the front of the pub are next to big picture windows overlooking the beach.  The beer garden has an aviary and children’s play area and is a recent addition.  Lynne and Dudley Bennett have made this an interesting hostelry right by the beach and there is accommodation as well!  Good Sunday lunches as well.

Lovely pub from which to explore the Helford river around Mawnan Church, which is ½ mile away.  Just take the footpath beside the church to the headland.  Although the pub had a ‘foodie transplant’ in recent years it is still rather nice.  Many different seating areas in which to relax. This is a cracking pub located by Stithians reservoir.  It’s difficult to find but worth it – take a good map.  As you enter the pub there is a bar by a large fireplace and further inside is a large dining area overlooking the reservoir.  The beer, service and food are all very good.  There is an outside sitting area as well. Stu. 8.5/10 1998

Visted this pub when it was just about to close after the lunch time. Landlord let us have a quick beer. Sat in the drinking area with bare floor broads and wooden tables, the dining area seemed to have views out to the reservoir.  Maybe a little too food orientated, but a good pub.  John 8/10 Nov 98

One of the best ladies toilets I've ever visited! Rather a food orientated pub, but pretty, with dark bar area and heavy wood seats. Dried flower arrangements very attractive. Sited by Stithians reservoir with good views. Brass plates on walls  Sue Sept 98

Super old pub near the North Cornwall border with Devon, although it’s a bit tricky to find even though it’s signposted off the A39.  Once a chapel and now a pub!  Courtyard area for sunny days and good service.  The ploughman’s I had was better than average and went well with the Hicks.   Good pub to take a friend. Stu. 8/10 July 2000

Lovely old pub off the A39 but not easy to find.  Its not on the coast but you can make out the coastline from the pub. Genuine old pub where you can feel the history with all the granite walls and stone floor.  Maybe because it’s in a remote part of North Cornwall is the reason why it is so unspoilt - its a gem!  John 9/10

Tom Bawcock was a local fisherman.  The story goes that one winter, the village was near starvation.  Tom got in his boat, braved an awful storm and caught a bumper catch of ‘seben sorts of fish’. He was able to feed the whole village.  The reason for this story is that you can get Stargazey pie in this pub on Christmas Eve’s Eve each year.   This is an archetypal Cornish pub with several bars and seating areas.  Don’t miss it or the lovely fishing village!   Stu 9/10  1998

Not easy to get to going down Mouseholes narrow lanes, but worth the effort. A big pub with lots of different areas, it feels commercial in some places but not others. Lots of wood and nautical things, like the small portholes. John 8/10 Aug 97

A very pretty pub with black painted beams and polished dark wood tables, and midnight blue upholstery. Stained glass panel divides and there are little' potholes' in them.  A large pub, divided into several areas, each with its own atmosphere.  Sue July 1996
